My Story - Jen Gibbs

Posted by Amy Williams

Local mum Jen Gibbs has written a book about living a life full of faith, hope and love. She tells us why women of the Bible played such a big role in her story.

Tell us about why you looked to women of the Bible for your book, She: A Journey of Faith, Hope & Love with Women of the Bible.

Growing up I heard stories of all the Biblical heroes, but apart from Mary at Christmas the women of the Bible never really heard about any other women and I hankered after their stories. At a young age I decided to read all the books about women: Esther, Ruth, Jude and Ezra (only to find out that Jude and Ezra were men!) When I started writing this book I thought it would be in order to gain insight and understanding to the women themselves – but as the book unfolded what I saw was bigger than that: SHE is a book that explores God’s heart for women.

What was the best thing you got out of writing this book?

Writing SHE has been such an adventure. But the best thing by far is all the reports of how God has been speaking to people through the pages of SHE. I’ve been getting emails, often from people I don’t know, telling me how moved they’ve been by some aspect of the book.

You wrote this book with three young children in tow – what was your writing routine and how did you do it?

It was (and is) a daily flurry. Writing is my job so every spare moment during the day is dedicated writing time. Life has been one mad rush. I know I’m not alone…sometimes we just have to give ourselves some slack!
